Since 2022, Disability Together has been working in partnership with NHS Devon to provide Waiting Well, a free, one-to-one telephone and email service supporting patients while they wait for treatment, manage complex health needs, or look to stay connected and independent after treatment.
More than 3,000 people have been supported so far, and we can now accept self-referrals. This means you no longer need a referral from a clinician to access support.
People come to us for guidance, including condition-specific information, help finding resources in their local community, and support with self-care, mental health, wellbeing or pain management.
If you feel overwhelmed by information, are unsure of your choices, are looking for a friendly person to talk to outside your family, or simply want to talk things through and plan next steps to stay well and plan for the future, Waiting Well could help.
The quickest way to begin receiving support is to complete a referral form.

Do I need to have a certain condition to receive support from Waiting Well?
Disability Together’s Waiting Well service is NHS-funded and supports people living with long-term complex health conditions, including musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, frailty, weight-management needs or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
If you’re not sure whether this sounds like you, we still encourage you to get in touch. Our Advice and Wellbeing team provides support for Disabled people and people with long-term health conditions.
