Help someone take their first step into a local activity with confidence.
We are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers to become Disability Ambassadors. Disability Ambassadors support Disabled and d/Deaf people to join local clubs, classes and groups.
The role is about offering a warm welcome and light support so people feel comfortable from the start. This is not a caring role and does not involve personal care.
What the role involves
- Meeting the person at the club, class or group they have chosen
- Helping them settle in and meet the organiser
- Offering friendly support while confidence builds
- Attending the activity up to two times, then stepping back
- Checking in afterwards to see how things are going
How the role works
- We match you with someone who would like support to try a local activity
- You meet them at the activity and offer light, friendly support
- Support is short term and flexible, based around local sessions
Training and support for volunteers
- Free Disability Awareness training
- Online induction and a simple sign up process
- Ongoing light touch guidance and support from our team
Who this role is for
This role suits friendly, reliable people who enjoy meeting others and helping someone feel welcome. Many Disability Ambassadors are already involved in local groups or activities, but this is not essential. The time commitment is occasional and flexible.
For community groups and activity providers
- Access free Disability Awareness training for your team
- Be part of the Ambassador network so people can find welcoming activities
- Support inclusion locally by offering a friendly point of contact
