Frequently asked questions

Who can volunteer?

Anyone 16+ who cares about inclusion and can communicate respectfully. Some roles may require references or a background check.

Most roles are flexible. Ambassador roles are often 2-4 hours a month. Peer Mentors are typically 1-2 hours a week for 3-6 months.

No – we provide an induction and role-specific training. Lived experience is valued in many roles.

Yes – several roles include phone or video calls, online events or accessibility testing.

Absolutely – tell us what you need (for example BSL support, large print, flexible timings or a support worker) and we’ll agree adjustments together.

Some roles (for example Peer Mentor) may require a basic or enhanced check. We’ll explain what’s needed and support you through it.

Usually yes – volunteering does not count as paid work, but you should follow any rules for your specific benefits and keep Jobcentre Plus informed.

You’ll have a named contact, clear role description, safeguarding guidance and regular check-ins. Skills workshops are available for some roles.

No problem – talk to your coordinator. We can adjust the role, pause your volunteering or suggest a better fit.

Yes – we can offer team volunteering days or skills-based support. Contact us to discuss options.

We follow safeguarding, confidentiality and health-and-safety policies. We’ll brief you on anything specific to your role or venue.
