Who we support

The Devon Advocacy Consortium (DAC) – led by Disability  Together in partnership with three other charities – provides advocacy for people over 16 navigating health, care or social services systems in Devon.

All our services are:

Our specialist advocacy services

NHS Complaints Advocacy

For anyone wishing to make a formal complaint about an NHS organisation. We can help guide you through the NHS complaints procedure, provide information and clarify your options, and help you to draft your complaint letter.

Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA)

For people detained under the Mental Health Act – whether sectioned, on a Conditional Discharge Order or a Community Treatment Order. Our IMHAs attend your care‑planning and tribunal meetings to ensure your views shape your treatment.

Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA)

For those who lack capacity and have no suitable family or friends involved, when serious medical treatment or a change of accommodation is proposed. Professionals (health or social care) refer you; we safeguard your rights under the Mental Capacity Act.

Care Act Advocacy

For adults assessed under the Care Act 2014 who have “substantial difficulty” navigating:

  • Safeguarding enquiries (Section 42)

  • Needs assessments & care planning

  • Care reviews & Carer’s assessments

  • After‑care under Section 117 of the Mental Health Act
Social‑care professionals refer you to ensure fair, person‑centred decisions.
