What is Style Without Barriers?
Style Without Barriers is a fundraising campaign encouraging salons, hairdressers and barbers across Devon to become more accessible. We will provide the tools to help you to break down barriers for Disabled people in your community, helping you to appeal to more customers, and create a more inclusive space for everyone to enjoy.
We simply ask each salon to raise £150 for Disability Together over six months. A donation pot or small event is more than enough.
Why does it matter?
Everyone wants to feel like their best self coming out of a salon. However, some may have trouble communicating their needs to their stylist, or something in the room might trigger sensory issues. By being more aware of how to make their stay more comfortable and how to make reasonable adjustments, business owners can make their space more welcoming for all.
As an autistic person, I don’t always have the energy for small talk. It means a lot when a stylist understands that quiet is my comfort zone.”
What's included:
- Free online access to Disability and Sensory awareness training: These will be delivered through quick videos and knowledge checks that you can complete in your own time.
- Tips for creating a more inclusive environment: A friendly, practical chat about small changes that make a big difference.
- Fundraising and social media packs: This includes free assets, printouts, and social media graphics that you can use at any time to help spread awareness and raise funds.
