Disability Together has been informed of a cyber security incident affecting Beacon, the data-base system we (and many other charities) use to securely manage information relating to our service users, volunteers, supporters, donors and other contacts. We understand that this will be worrying to those affected, and we are truly sorry that this has happened. Protecting your personal information is extremely important to us.
What happened?
On Wednesday 29th July 2026, Beacon, our CRM software provider, became aware that they may have experienced a cyber-security incident. They immediately engaged external cyber-security experts to help investigate and secure their systems. Based on its current investigation, they have informed organisations that they should assume data held within Beacon may have been downloaded by an unauthorised third party. Beacon has also advised that it is unlikely to be able to determine exactly which organisations’ data or individual records were affected. Disability Together was notified of the incident on Monday 3rd August.
What are we doing?
Protecting your personal information is extremely important to us. As soon as we were notified, we activated our incident response procedures, secured our connected systems and reported the incident to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We are continuing to work closely with Beacon as its investigation progresses and are carrying out a thorough assessment of the potential impact on the information we hold.
What should you do?
At this time, there is no evidence that Disability Together’s data has been published or misused, and we have not been informed that any individual’s information has been specifically compromised. However, we recognise that this news may be concerning, and we are treating the incident with the utmost seriousness.
As a precaution, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant for unexpected emails, text messages or telephone calls claiming to be from Disability Together, Beacon or other trusted organisations that ask for personal information, passwords or financial details. Disability Together will never contact you to ask for passwords or sensitive financial information.
