Learning Disability Week 2026

Learning Disability Week 2026 is here!

Running from Monday 15 to Sunday 21 June, this is a week to celebrate voices, challenge barriers, and recognise the strengths of people with a learning disability.

At Disability Together, we’re proud to support people with a learning disability and make sure they are heard, included and valued.

Inspired by this year’s theme, “Do You See Me?” we’ll be sharing stories, breaking down myths, and celebrating what inclusion really means for people with a learning disability.

Myth busting by Oliver McGowan Experts by Experience

Shaun, Expert by Experience

“One myth is that people with a learning disability can’t communicate or take part in conversations, when it’s quite obvious that they can. You just need to take time to get to know the person and how best to communicate with them.

People with a Learning Disability CAN learn new skills and succeed with the right support and if they’re given opportunities.”

Claire, Expert by Experience on myth busting

“One myth about people with a learning disability is that they can all be put in the same box.

Obviously we’re not all the same. Everybody is different. There are people who can do quite a bit for themselves and need minimal support and there are people who have a lot more challenges and need quite a lot of support. There is a broad spectrum.

My colleagues help me to feel included. I’m treated as an individual…”
