Emergency seatbelt covers – designed to contain information to share with emergency services if you are ever involved in an accident, and introduced by Devon and Cornwall police, can now be collected from our reception.

The seatbelt covers are part of an initiative by Devon and Cornwall Police. They are being offered free, to those with additional needs to help make communication easier after incidents. For example, being involved in a road traffic accident.

A card inside the seatbelt cover allows the user to add their name, age, address, medical conditions or other information about how they like to be communicated with. It then securely wraps around an adult seatbelt using Velcro.

In the event of an emergency a police officer, ambulance or fire service team, or a member of the public can look inside the seatbelt cover to get more information. The details provided will help that person understand how best to respond to a person’s individual needs and to help make them feel safe again.

There is also an option for the seat belt wearer to use the information card to point to a picture showing which part of the body they have injured.

You can collect a free seatbelt cover and information card from the Disability Together offices during our reception opening times: Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm.
