Tier 1 - Summary

Tier 1 training includes an eLearning module and a 60 minute webinar via Teams. The webinars can be delivered in mornings and afternoons. We aim to work flexibly with providers to ensure the training fits their schedules.

Who needs this training?

Tier 1 of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is for people who require general awareness of the support autistic people or people with a learning disability may need.

What to expect

  • On following the instructions to register a place via our booking form, the attendee will receive a link to the Teams webinar.
  • On the day of training attendees will be asked to join with their microphone off and camera on, this is to minimise disruption to our Experts with Lived Experience.
  • It will be made clear when everyone can turn their microphones on and the training team will encourage participants to ask them questions.
  • There are no silly questions, our Experts are open and ready to give attendees an insight into their world.

Why this training is essential

Developed by Health Education England and Skills for Care, in collaboration with individuals with learning disabilities and autistic people, the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the government’s recommended training for health and social care staff. It equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide safe, compassionate, and informed care, aiming to prevent experiences like those of Oliver.

Framework and standards

The content aligns with Tier 1 and Tier 2 capabilities within the Core Capabilities Framework for Supporting People with a Learning Disability and the Core Capabilities Framework for Supporting Autistic People.

Prerequisites to webinar and face-to-face training

All attendees must have completed the e-learning module (approx. 90mins online)
